Redlands Classic

On Saturday April 9, 2016  I attended a Bike race Called the Redlands Bicycle Classic. On Saturday the racers were on stage 4 out of 5.
Too take pictures I took my Nikon D7100 and for the lenses I took my 18-140mm and my 55-300mm.

Redlands Annual Bicycle Classic

It was overcast during the race so the lighting was good, there was no harsh light. I was still able to get a fast shutter speed so i could capture the Cyclist in motion, but at times i just had to raise my ISO(light sensitivity) just to a higher level. This was a good experience to lens how to take pictures in different environments, it was a lot of fun, I hope you enjoy the pictures.

The race had three different groups of people, the First Group of people to race where the Para-cyclist.

I didn't get this many pictures for this group of people because it was a fast race about 30min or so, but I was mostly walking around and I ended up talking to some of the volunteers and one of them was from Canada and I don't remember where the other one was from.

The next set of racers was the women.

The winner of the women's race ended up being Lauretta Hanson.

After the women the was a 30min break from racing, then at 4:30pm the men Started there race. The men's race was a 90min timed event. It went by very quick especially since they were doing 1:30sec laps which was a great pace.

At the Start of the event I first went to take some pictures by the very first turn from the starting line.

I ended up doing a lot of walking but I didn't walk the full course. I did about half of it and it brought me in a circle. I was able to take pictures of the racers from different points, it helped a lot when the lead Motorcycle came by because you then would know that the racers were coming soon.

On my camera I used Auto focus, but at the start of the race I used mode in my Nikon camera called continuous focus which means it will try to follow a moving subject. But, because there was so many people I switched my camera to a single point focus mode. It gave me the ability to use one of the fifty-one focus points on the camera and lock on a subject. Changing the camera to this help me a lot to focus onto a single cyclist.

At the End of the race the was a crash at the last turn. You can kinda see it in the photo above, I didn't really get a good picture of it because it was far from me and i was limited of focal length.

Overall this was a very fun event and I am happy with the results I got, and I hope you've enjoyed them too. Please Share this with your Friends and family and give me some feed back on what pictures you would like to see.
